![]() Īs you know, Logic Pro X uses Audio Unit (AU) virtual instruments and effects plug-ins, hence no VSTi virtual instruments or VST effects plug-ins, which usually is not a problem, since most third-party vendors supply both AU and VST versions. ![]() If you are using any VST effects plug-ins and there are Audio Unit (AU) versions, then you can move them to Logic Pro X, where you will use the Audio Unit (AU) versions. In some respects, at least initially it can be a bit of work to get everything configured correctly, but the rewards are significant, since you can do things in Logic Pro X that you cannot do in NOTION 5 with respect to MIDI. Johnnewberry wroteI can assure you that if setup properly there won't be any glitches. If the notes can't play through consistently then I'm not encouraged to keep experimenting, but perhaps this is due to some setting that I don't know about or something that I'm doing wrong. With Digital Performer 8, it is easier, since you just need to set the input for an audio track to be a ReWire channel pair coming from NOTION 5, and there you are without needing to create an intermediate auxiliary channel strip or whatever. Other than (a) doubling the number or channel strips or tracks and (b) adding an intermediate configuration step, it has no affect on anything else and you can hide or show the auxiliary channel strips or tracks, which reduces the visual clutter. With the first group of DAW applications, NOTION 5 output channel pairs are routed first to auxiliary channels or tracks and then the audio for the auxiliary channels or tracks is routed to audio tracks for recording, so there are two tracks needed (an auxiliary track to receive the audio sent from NOTION 8 and an audio track onto which to record the audio). (2) DAW applications that allow direct connection of ReWire channels to audio tracks: Studio One 2.6+ Producer/Professional (PreSonus) (1) DAW applications that require auxiliary channels or tracks: There are difference in the ways DAW applications handle their connections to ReWire, and this separates them into two groups: Other than this, there are no particular limitations specific to Logic Pro X. Live 9 can function (a) as a ReWire host controller or (b) as a ReWire slave, but when it is a ReWire slave its functionality is limited, where for example no VSTi virtual instruments or VST effects plug-ins are allowed. The only limitation is that like all Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) applications, except Live 9 (Ableton), it must be the ReWire host controller. I believe that there are some limitations with Rewire. Michaelmyers1 wroteI currently use Logic Pro X as a DAW when needed. Reaper 4.7+ works very nicely on the Mac, and it does ReWire correctly, which is excellent! ![]() Some of these questions are obviously newbie type questions. I was excited I could set this up to work at all. All the notes seem to play through a single track in Logic.ĥ. I can't seem to isolate a stream of MIDI data by channel, even though I set the MIDI output in the Instrument in Notion to Channel 1, 2, 3, 4 etc. Is there a logical point when you record the midi data from Notion into a midi track in the DAW? Or do you continue to allow the Rewire connection to generate notes?Ĥ. Is there a way to control tempo changes in the DAW? Also fermata in the Notion score seem to be ignored.ģ. Maybe this is just because I don't yet understand how. The tempo, rit and accel I was used to in Notion is no longer played through. I don't know how to control Tempo in Logic. If the notes can't play through consistently then I'm not encouraged to keep experimenting, but perhaps this is due to some setting that I don't know about or something that I'm doing wrong.Ģ. I've just done some experimentation using Rewire where Notion as a slave is sending midi data to a VE instrument in Logic Pro as a host.
